brash rebellion or bold defiance

Hey friend,

Personally, I've got no interest in instigating the kind of low-stakes actions that only tweak the status quo—simply rearranging the furniture on a sinking ship or trimming trees in the midst of a raging forest fire—but in catalyzing change that has the power to transform entire cultures.

That uproots injustice without inflicting it in return.
That eradicates dehumanizing behavior.
That decimates harmful status quo structures while creating something better, truer and aligned with human flourishing.

In wrestling with what meaningful communal transformation really requires, I’ve also seriously grappled with stewarding my own desire to be heard—recognizing that my voice, like yours, is essential in shaping the narratives that drive change but also come with a sober responsibility.

For a time, in pursuing that kind of "impossible" change, although I didn’t lead with control or aggression—often enough, I wielded my own brand of it when I was cornered.

I resonated deeply with our pal Peter, and his willingness to relieve people of having to bear the weight of ears they obviously weren't using anyways.

Not because I wanted to dominate, but from a sense of holy discontentment and urgency to be taken seriously. I just didn’t know how else to make that happen.

As I sought a wiser way, I was drawn further into the world of storying and narrative.

And over time, I came to a deeper understanding of why the vast majority of positive transformational impact doesn’t begin with drawing swords but rather starts with asking questions grounded in humility, tenacious curiosity, and courageously tender honesty.

It turns out that the real fight isn’t won in “taking down” an enemy with clever arguments and reacting with brash rebellion. It's found in untangling narratives, reclaiming language, and questioning the roles we’ve been playing out inside the stories we've been telling.

That's true regardless of whether you're driven to protect the current status quo or dismantle it.

So what scripts are we and "they" following that are resulting in the reality each of us is currently experiencing?

What do those scripts say about:

🗡️ Violence — who gets to use it and under what circumstances? What criteria defines a threat?
💰 Poverty — what is it, who deserves help, where should help come from and how ought resources be distributed?
🏥 Healthcare — who gets access to preventative care, treatment and who is left to suffer?
Enlightenment — who is worthy of seeking wisdom from, and who is written off as woo-woo?
👑 Hierarchy — who has authority to lead and define reality, and who is expected to defer, absorb, and obey?

The only thing standing between where we currently are and where we long to be is the bold defiance of choosing to tell a better story.

That kind of story will be in your inbox tomorrow.

In possibility,
📖 Camille
